As a prospective international student, I didn’t have the luxury of first testing out Vancouver or strolling down to 500 Granville street and checking out the campus in person. But one valuable tool I did have, to gain insight into the SFU Beedie MBA program and the city in which it takes place, was this very blog. So it seems only fair that I now also contribute.
Today marks two weeks since the official start of the program. In such a short space of time my extended family has grown by 56 members (note to self: don’t offer to host thanksgiving). I cannot begin to tell you how seriously competent and insightful this cohort is. And why shouldn’t it be? After all it is comprised of multiple industry backgrounds and nationalities. Despite these differences there is little to keep us apart. Through MBA orientation week, group projects, various networking events, and the odd after-class martini, we are now operating like a well-oiled machine. The professors are engaging and the subjects are cleverly intertwined to always give you the bigger business picture.
The fact that I can mistake the Assistant Dean for a classmate and laugh it off, be subject to a ‘mandatory’ class trip to Brazil, and can type this post whilst sitting in what was once a bank vault is proof that the SFU Beedie MBA is not your average university experience.
